Order management for Shopify and D2C brands

Updated 2 min read

The short answer

D2C brands usually start on their own storefront and add marketplaces for reach — at which point the storefront and the marketplaces each hold their own stock number. An OMS puts one ledger behind all of them, issues one invoice series, drives a single warehouse workflow, and shows blended margin per SKU across owned and marketplace channels.

  • Your Shopify storefront alongside your marketplace channels
  • One stock ledger, one order queue, one warehouse workflow
  • Blended per-SKU margin across owned and marketplace sales
  • GST invoicing on your own storefront orders too

The tension every D2C brand hits

Your own storefront is where the brand and the margin live. Marketplaces are where the volume is. Running both is the correct commercial answer and an operational headache, because the two have entirely different rhythms — and the same physical stock behind them.

What the OMS layer resolves

  • One stock ledger, so a storefront sale and a marketplace sale cannot claim the same unit.
  • One order queue and one pick list, so a small team is not context-switching all day.
  • One GST invoice series per entity, covering storefront and marketplace orders alike.
  • Blended margin per SKU, so you can see what a product earns after every channel's deductions.
  • A single returns process, whichever channel the order came from.

Frequently asked questions

Can I run Shopify and marketplaces from the same inventory?

Yes. Connect the storefront and each marketplace to one stock ledger, and every channel reads the same availability. You can also reserve part of a SKU's stock for your own storefront so a marketplace sale event does not consume it all.

Does Shopify not already manage my orders?

It manages orders placed on Shopify. It does not know about your Amazon, Flipkart or Meesho sales, cannot hold one stock number across them, and does not reconcile marketplace settlements — which is the gap an OMS fills.
