ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning)
Definition
Software that runs the wider business — accounting, procurement, finance, often manufacturing and payroll — as one integrated system of record.
ERPs are built around the general ledger. They are strongest where finance is complex: multiple entities, statutory consolidation, production planning, vendor payments.
They are weakest at marketplace-specific commerce operations, which is why growing online sellers usually need an OMS first and add an ERP later, with the OMS feeding it reconciled transaction data.
